Black Kettle and his wife Medicine Woman Later make a frantic dash to the creek bank during the Sand Creek attack by Col. John Chivington’s Colorado Volunteers. Black Kettle made it but his wife was hit, She was only wounded and later recovered. Black Kettle and Medicine Woman Later were both killed four years later by troops under George Armstrong Custer at the Washita River.
